Scaling with Purpose: Powering Software for the Free World with $70M Series C

September 12, 2024

Today we announced a $70M Series C fundraise from new investors Salesforce Ventures and Battery Ventures,  joined by existing investors NEA, Moore Strategic Ventures, and Artis. This funding allows us to continue rapidly expanding our product suite, supporting additional regulated networks, and collaborating with allied governments around the world to power better software. The momentum we’re building is electric – from deploying commercial applications into classified environments and further international expansion, to adding a former US Senator to the team, all while growing 2F to a headcount of nearly 130. Combine these milestones with  475% revenue growth and over 350% customer growth in the last 18 months, and the progress the team has made is simply amazing.

And this is still only the beginning.

Software for the Free World.

The most pressing missions demand the highest quality software, and they demand uncompromising security. Missions ranging from defense and national security to powering the infrastructure of free societies and international markets alike. National security is not limited to just defense and intelligence agencies or missions, it is the foundation of a free society. Freedom is not political. Freedom is not a feature. Freedom is the only thing. Our work with the MoD and NATO are just the beginning here as we look to additional allies coming into the Game Warden ecosystem, as well as continued expansion across critical infrastructure and civilian sectors.

A global partnership.

The only way a radical vision gets accomplished is with a strong community of partners and customers. Our approach has been, and will always be, one in which the community benefits before we do. We only win if the community wins. If the community wins the country wins. If the country wins, the world benefits. This belief is core to our DNA. I would be remiss to not specifically call out our VP of Partnerships and Alliances, Mamie Cruse, who is an absolute superhero. She has and continues to latch together global partnerships with some of the most impactful organizations around the world, ranging from CSPs to distribution channels to technical integration and we’d be lost without her.

A growing (powerhouse) team.

We’ve grown to nearly 130 people at 2F, which blows my mind considering we started as a scrappy group of 9-10 trying to figure it out. The team has leveled up big time. TJ Rowe, my first sales hire, is now CRO. We brought on engineering leaders, Josh Bosquez as CTO and Ryan Clewis as VP of Engineering. Enrique Oti’s move to CSO is an exciting, natural progression and represents his impact at 2F — no one else gets folks to see the art of the possible and click ‘I believe’ as he does. Marie Ketner joining as VP of Product has already brought incredible focus and velocity to the team. Paired with Michael Neumann’s unique insights as CPO, they’ve elevated our entire product organization to a new level. Finally, having Matt Conner move from a Board Director to CISO has leveled up our security teams and allowed us to scale our impact exponentially. To the rest of the organization, from finance to people ops and everywhere in between, I'm continually impressed with your relentless commitment to our mission. We wouldn't be where we are without each and every one of you.

A wild first year.

It is crazy to think it has only been a little over a year since I took over the role of CEO from our Founder Peter Dixon (thanks again Dad). I feel like I have learned a lifetime of lessons in my first year, ranging from organizational debt and design to hiring and performance management and the non-negotiables. A few of my key learnings, which as I write them feel like re-learnings (h/t Alvin Toffler).

  • Time and focus are your most precious assets - guard them ruthlessly
  • Build fanaticism around customer outcomes and quality - it will yield tremendous value and without it, you will be pushing rocks up a hill forever
  • Don’t force cultural fit or performance - if it’s not there it will never be there and that’s ok
  • Control is an illusion

As we continue to deploy more applications into more environments, I couldn’t be more excited about the future. With new additions to the product suite, new global partners, and new supported deployment patterns, the future is bright. The Series C funding adds fuel to the fire, enabling us to scale quicker, faster, and stronger. This isn’t just about growth; it’s about accelerating our ability to deliver impactful solutions that align with our mission. I’ll be a little coy here and let the team share the news of much of this when they’re ready, but it freaking rocks.

Moon, please.

To the customers who years ago clicked ‘I believe’ early, thank you. To our investors who have supported this vision since the beginning, thank you. Artis who led our Seed round, Moore Strategic Ventures and AEI HorizonX who led the Series A, and NEA the Series B, have all been tremendous assets throughout the journey and have been amazingly value added throughout. Adding Salesforce Ventures and Battery to the mix will only add velocity.

To. The. Moon.
